The visiting delegation from Kharkiv with colleagues from Bonn in front of the historic Anatomy Institute building.
On 2 October, the Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from Kharkiv National Medical University. The visit provided an opportunity for valuable scientific exchange and personal dialogue.
Participants of the visit following the lecture session in the Otto Deiters Hall.
During the lecture session, the guests shared insights into their research environment and described the extraordinary challenges faced by research, teaching and museum operations in Kharkiv. The Anatomy building has been damaged during the war, and the Museum of Medicine had to relocate to a safer site.
We were deeply impressed by the dedication, motivation and determination with which our colleagues continue to maintain teaching and research under these difficult conditions.

A joint dinner with Prof. Bernd Weber, Dean of the Bonn Medical Faculty, provided further opportunity to discuss concrete next steps. Both sides expressed their intention to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding.
This visit conveys a strong message of academic solidarity and mutual support – and is linked with the hope of a return visit to Ukraine in the near future, once peaceful circumstances prevail.
