Prof. Dr. med. Rujin Huang

Professor of the anatomy

About him

Prof. Dr. Huang has been studying how the spine develops from the somites for decades. Having discovered that the neck muscles (trapezius and sternocleidomastoid) originated not from the somites but from the lateral plate mesoderm, he is now interested in the development of these muscles and also in the axonal pathfinding of their nerve, which has a unique peripheral course.
His earlier work as a physician has greatly influenced him in the teaching of anatomy. Since anatomy is a vast subject that involves a great deal of learning, he advocates clinically oriented teaching that not only facilitates learning but also motivates students. To this end, he tries to use concrete clinical examples to illustrate the importance of anatomy and motivate students.

For him, the tension of research and teaching is alleviated by a profound enjoyment of nature. Nature is a great source of strength as well of many fresh ideas for his work.
